The scientific name of the brake hub is the brake drum, referred to as the brake drum, which is the main part of the drum brake system. When braking, the inner surface of the brake drum and the brake pad friction play the role of braking. Its manufacturing material is generally model HT250 gray iron. In the case of improper use of vehicle parts by the driver or serious overload, the brake hub can be broken and damaged, often causing injuries in the process of high-speed driving.

    Brake drum is an important component of drum brake system. The inner surface of the brake drum is the position where the brake device produces the brake torque. With the same braking torque, the diameter of the drum can be much smaller than the disc of the disc brake. Therefore, in order to obtain powerful braking force, heavy vehicles can only install drum brake in the limited space of the wheel rim. Drum brake systems are generally installed on the rear wheels of large vehicles.

Brake drum maintenance

When the brake drum wear reaches the limit value (for example, the limit value of the brake drum with the diameter of 180mm is φ180mm), the brake drum should be replaced.

Carefully clean and check the brake drum and wheel bolts for wear, damage and dimensional tolerance, as well as whether the inner surface of the brake drum is in good condition, if problems are found, should be replaced with new parts.

After maintenance, the brake drum is injected into the wheel hub with multi-purpose grease.
